Fifth grade students in Ms. Rea's room at Columbus East have been studying different aspects of Hispanic culture and traditions. They learned about the Taino, an indigenous people of the Caribbean, who were encountered by Europeans in the 1400s. The Taino left behind petroglyphs, which are symbolic images carved on rock. At then end of the lesson, the students created their own petroglyphs to honor this ancient culture.
