D99, Cicero community celebrate Mexican Independence Day
Jacqueline Pisano

Each September, the Town of Cicero and hundreds of local residents, school and civic leaders, and business partners gather to celebrate a grand weekend of festivities around Mexican Independence Day, both to round up neighbors for cultural camaraderie and honor the cherished traditions of thousands of Cicero's Mexican American residents.

This year, Cicero's annual parade traveled along Cermak Road on Sunday, Sept. 15 — just one day before Mexican Independence Day!

With the parade kickoff at noon, dozens of Cicero District 99 students, teachers, administrators and families spent the afternoon marching west down Cermak, showcasing school pride, passing out candy and searching for neighbors and friends in the crowd!
