STEAM/Digital Lit
Program and Department Overview
The overall goal of the STEAM (3-6) Program:
*Ensure the understanding and application of the Engineering Design Process and 21st Century Skills of Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking and Creativity to solve problems
*Ensure student growth within the standards and skills as measured by standardized unit assessments and the completing of challenge charts. Pre/Post Assessments are administered using MasteryConnect and CFA's are developed as part of the PLC process
*Develop familiarity with STEM careers in the context of the class
*Practice strong digital citizenship and Internet safety
The overall goal of the Digital Literacy (K-2) Program:
*Ensure the prioritized acquisition of foundational skills necessary to be productive using technology in all classes
*Ensure student growth within the ITSE standards and skills as measured by standardized unit assessments
*Develop the 4 C's, basic research skills and basic problem-solving
*Develop strong digital citizenship and Internet safety practices

Kindergarten-Second Grade Digital Literacy

Unit 1
Basic Computer Functions
Focus is on:
*Basic understanding of hardware/software
*Logging-in and password security
*Basic device and Internet navigation

Unit 2
Digital Citizenship
Focus is on:
*Being safe online
*Managing the digital identity
*Responding appropriately to cyberbullying
*Demonstrating a respect for the rights and privacy of others
*Demonstrating classroom expectations of use

Unit 3
Productivity, Organization & Collaboration
Focus is on:
*Basic Internet and Database usage
*Organization and File Management
*Developing Skills within Basic Productivity Apps (Word Processing, Presentation, Painting/Drawing)

Unit 4 and 5
Research, Coding & Problem Solving
The students will begin to learn the basics of coding in Kindergarten and 1st grade with a dedicated coding unity within the second grade map. The Research Unit is designed to introduce students to effective research techniques and basic presentation skills.
Third-Sixth Grade STEAM Curriculum

3rd Grade
Focus is on coding using Ozobots

4th Grade
Focus is on building and understanding circuits using SmartCircuits and LittleBits

5th Grade
Focus is on safety engineering using Sphero RVR and LittleBits

6th Grade
Focus is on bioengineering using 3D printers.
