The Calhoun Varsity and JV cross country team competed in the Moulton cross country meet this last Saturday. Over 30 teams ranging from 1A to 6A also competed. Results are as follows: Varsity Girls - 10th place. Delilah Dowell was the 10th place medalist with a 2 mile time of 12:56, Varsity Boys - 6th place, JV Boys - 3V boys 3rd place.
The Freshmen Black Football Team were defeated by the Victoria West Warriors 24-28 for their first loss of the season. Down 6-22 in the middle of the 3rd quarter, the Crab offense finally found life and was able to score 3 straight TD's to take the lead 24-22 with :25 seconds to go. Unfortunately, a defensive lapse on the field and a highly questionable officiating call allowed for the Warriors to run one final play at the 2 yard line with 2 seconds, giving the Warriors all they needed for a 28-24 win. Offensive standouts included QB Avery Svetlik with 3 rushing TD’s and Slotback Sawyer Richter had 1 rushing TD as well. Slotback Max Ondreas also added large chunks of yards rushing and had a crucial 12 yard reception on 3rd and 10 to keep the chains moving. Tight End Jacob Martinez also added a big 40 yard reception late in the game to keep the final scoring drive for the crabs going. Defensive standouts included Linebacker Blane O'Donnell with multiple tackles and Safety Avery Svetlik with an Interception. The Black Team is now 2-1 on the season and will play their next game of the season against the Stafford Spartans at Sandcrab Stadium next Thursday at 5PM. Come out and support our boys! GO SANDCRABS!!!
