Brenden Gregory is a junior at Camdenton High School who is reaping the benefits of the community and school working together to provide for him a worthwhile and meaningful education. When Brenden expressed an interest in auto repair, Camdenton alumnus Matt Fewell, of Fewell’s Automotive in Camdenton consented to provide a hands-on tutoring experience for Brenden. The school arranged Brenden’s academic schedule for the second semester to be completed with two hours remaining in the school day. Transportation was arranged so that Brenden could spend the last two hours of the school day working and learning at Fewell’s Automotive.

“Brenden works directly under Matt’s tutelage on car repairs, oil changes, and engine problems. He also does shop cleanup and sorts parts for salvage or scrap sales. There are days he comes out looking like a grease monkey, but a smile rests on his face and he is eager to tell you what he did,” states Bob Cizek, high school math teacher.

He is required to keep a daily log and if he is absent for any reason, it is his responsibility to call the shop and let Matt know.

The successes he is experiencing at Fewell’s is transferring to other areas of his education.

The on-site training is made possible through C.B.I. (Camdenton High School Community Based Instruction). The C.B.I. Job Training Program is designed to teach students skills needed to gain and maintain employment. It also is designed to give the students exposure to a variety of jobs, careers, and vocations.
