Computer Science & Technology Program

BHS offers courses for students who are new to computer science as well as for students with prior experience. Several courses offer college credit in computer science through dual enrollment or AP credit. Courses meet Exploratory and Elective requirements and give students a chance to explore how computer science applies to the social sciences, life sciences, fine arts and business. Students learn to create, collaborate and communicate using computer science, and may take one course, or take a progression of courses to pursue a more in-depth study to prepare for today’s careers.

Pathway Programs
Students have the opportunity to join the Innovation Career Pathways programs in Business or Computer Science. Pathways are open to all students. Students engage in coursework and practical experiences related to their career goals.

Students will take two (2) college level business or computer science courses at BHS in addition to two (2) elective or exploratory courses. They will also complete an internship or 100 hour Capstone Project with industry mentors (Flipped Internship). Students receive additional career and academic planning in order to prepare them for career choices in business or computer science related fields.

Sample course sequence for Pathway Programs:

- Two exploratory or elective courses
- Two college level courses offered through Burlington High School
- Senior Internship (Capstone Project)

Computer Science Pathways

There are a variety of ways students can include computer science course in their schedules. A popular pathway is Computer Science Principles, Programming I and then AP CS A, or Exploring Computer Science, Programming I, and AP CS A. Students should ask guidance or CS teachers to map out the best path.  To receive the CS Pathway designation on a student’s transcript, they must take 2 college level courses (AP or Dual Enrollment) and complete a Capstone Project or Internship their senior year.
