Course Registration Guide - Incoming Grade 9

This document is meant to serve as a guide to help Grade 8 students and parents when selecting courses on Aspen. Please be sure to view teacher recommendations for core courses on Aspen. Students and parents are able to view all recommendations. A hard copy will be given to all rising 8th grade students at Marshall Simonds Middle School. Below find a digital version as well. 

- Be sure to check the On-Line Program of Studies for specific prerequisite information, course descriptions, and graduation requirements.
- Each student must select no less than 33 credits.
- All students must take six (6) academic classes per semester plus Physical Education & Health.
- Teacher approval is required for some course selections & will be reflected on Aspen.
- One World Language Alternate must be selected on Aspen
- Alternate electives totaling 10 credits must be selected.
- If there is a concern about a specific teacher recommendation, please contact the teacher prior to conferring with your guidance counselor

Freshman Year Required Courses:
- Introduction to Literature
- 5 Credits in Mathematics (Essentials of Algebra, Algebra I or Geometry)
- U.S. History I
- Biology
- 1st Year of Foreign Language or 2nd Year of Foreign Language (only if 1st year taken at MSMS)
- Physical Education/Health
- 5 Credits of Electives. (courses from the exploratory requirement are recommended)
