Mark your calendar for Willamette High School, Sunday, August 28 from 1-4:30 pm. 

• Each student will receive shoes, socks, backpacks, games.
• Please call your child’s school to sign up for a time to attend. If you have students in more than one school, you can sign up all of your children by calling one school. You do not need to call the school for each of your students.
• You will have a time assigned, so please arrive at that time, not before. We have carefully assigned times to honor state safety guidelines.

Help us keep Project Hope safe (COVID-19 Procedures): Face coverings are not required but be prepared to keep 6ft distance from others. Please do not attend if you are ill, or have been around someone who is ill.

Estamos encantados de anunciar que Proyecto Esperanza se llevará a cabo nuevamente este año.

• Cada estudiante recibirá zapatos, calcetines, una mochila y juegos.
• Por favor llame a la escuela de su hijo/a para inscribirse y obtener un horario para asistir. Si tiene estudiantes en más de una escuela, puede inscribir a todos sus hijos llamando a una escuela. No es necesario que llame a la escuela por cada uno de sus estudiantes.
• Se le asignará una hora, así que llegue a esa hora, no antes. Hemos asignado tiempos cuidadosamente para cumplir con las pautas de seguridad estatales.

Covered Play Area Coming To Irving

This is exciting news! Irving’s playground will be getting a large covered play area.

This means even when it’s raining Irving students will be able to go outside to play.

Architects and engineers visited our school this week and we finalized the location of the covered play structure, which will be built this summer near our current playground equipment.

The covered play area is being made possible through the Bethel bond measure, which was passed by voters in November 2020 and did not increase anyone’s tax rate.

Irving has already seen an improved heating system and a much-needed new roof as a result of the Bethel bond.

Kindness/Friendship Week 

During the week of Feb. 14-18 , Irving will focus on and celebrate Kindness and Friendship.  Students will be engaged in many fun activities throughout the week:

• School Wide Focus on Kindness-students demonstrating Kindness and Friendship will receive a Kindness card.  The card will be collected by teachers and put into a drawing for some great prizes.
• Coloring Contest-students in all grades can choose to participate in a fun coloring contest
• Class activities that promote Kindness/Friendship:
  • Acts of Kindness Game
  • Creating Friendship cards for another student
  • Class book read aloud focused on Kindness and Friendship
  • Other fun class activities

Although, we won’t be focused on Valentine’s Day activities this week, if a student does happen to bring cards in, a time for them to hand out will be provided before the end of the school day.

Irving families, this is a reminder that there is no school on Friday, February 4th for students.  Teachers will be engaged in Professional Development and planning.

Grades 3-5 Author Visit in March

Irving Elementary is excited to welcome Children’s book author, Dennis Matthew in March prior to spring break.

Dennis Mathew is a husband, father, elementary school speech pathologist, singer-songwriter, and author currently living in Oklahoma. For over 20 years Dennis has had the joy and honor of working with children in public schools and through nonprofit work. In 2018, he launched his authorship, bringing children’s stories integrating social-emotional wholeness, language enrichment, critical thinking, conflict resolution, and character development to life. His published works so far are Bello the Cello, My Wild First Day of School, and How Grizzly Found Gratitude. 

Dennis Matthew’s books are centered around social-emotional learning.  Through dialogue and discourse in the classroom, teachers will be able to connect what is learned during the author visit to what is being taught in the classroom.  Dennis will visit each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classroom and lead writing workshops.  Additionally, every student at Irving will receive a copy of his book Bello the Cello.

We are thankful to the Bethel Education Foundation and the Irving Elementary PTO to help pay for this wonderful opportunity for our students!  And, thank you to Nicole Butler for helping plan author visit!

Irving 4^th & 5^th Grade Parents

Irving will be starting two new open (optional) groups every-other Monday and Tuesday at 2pm, starting the week of 1/31 for 4th and 5th grade students.  Groups will be led by Irving Elementary Counselor Elizabeth Johnson and Bethel Family Navigator, Susie Hammond.  Please see the flyers below for new affinity groups at Irving: Empowering Students of Color (Irving) and Irving Gender Sexuality Alliance (flyer)
